Dear Mike,
A belated happy new year to everyone! A few reminders and confirmations for your February.
I'm wrapping up the 2008 calendars at the end of February. If you know anyone that wants one, please forward this to them or buy it for them now! www.bigweekendcalendars.com.
As one customer gleefully told us, what better way is there to get your mother-in-law out of the house? So many events right around the corner (March and April are two of the busiest of the year), so get off the couch, and go enjoy this town we love so much.

Rodeo Austin, Feb. 29-March 15
|
|
The unofficial start to the busy Austin spring begins at the end of this month, and the lineup is graced with Willie Nelson, fellow legend George Jones, and Styx (!), not to mention more Hot 100 country acts, bull-riding and livestock, and enough barbecue to make you slap your momma. Tickets are at www.rodeoaustin.com. |
Art Night Austin 08: A Night in the Galleries, Feb. 23
|
|
Art Alliance Austin's first big event of the year, A Night in the Galleries is a must-see, with food, culture, drinks, and great company. Not to mention the swanky afterparty at the Downtown AMLI. Info on artists, events, and perks (chaffeured transportation!), see www.artallianceaustin.org/art_night_austin.html.

Chinese New Year
The dates for Chinatown Austin's expansive Chinese New Year's Celebration weren't available when we went to press, but they are now: Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 9 & 10. Traditional dance, martial arts exhibits, Cantonese music, fireworks, and oh, the noodles you'll eat. It's a huge celebration up north. See www.chinatownaustin.comfor more info.
Black History Month
In addition to Huston-Tillotson University's African American Community Heritage Festival (Saturday, Feb. 23, beginning at 2pm), the month is strewn with celebrations of art, music, and culture. The Austin Chamber Music Center presents a program of arrangements by African-American composers on Feb. 7, 7:30pm, at the King-Seabrook Chapel. State Rep. Dawnna Dukes delivers the keynote speech at the African American Heritage Network's 2008 Black History Program this Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 11:30am, at the Palmer Events Center. See the Huston-Tillotson website for more info.

The King of Jester Hill Climb ended up being canceled again this year (it's on your calendar as tentative), but since it's the beginning of marathon season (lots of beginnings this time of year), we suggest keeping up with the RunTex website for more cardio love. Be safe this Mardi Gras season, and we'll see you next update.
Please continue to send any suggestions or feedback on festivals, the calendar itself, the website, or the email list to feedback@AustinFunStuff.com
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
